Statement
Having worked as a lecturer teaching Communication with art students in Further Education and having always enjoyed creative activities and photography, I was encouraged to become a student again at 53. I then found a renewed enthusiasm for art which I had somehow mislaid along the way while being distracted by being an adult.
Early on, I found an affinity with clay and focussed on expressing my thoughts on the world via ceramics. My work includes political statement, social commentary, work inspired by nature and ancient forms. I mostly hand build, the wheel and I are in the early stages of our relationship, but this is something I hope to develop.
I also try to incorporate other types of media into my work via surface decoration or by including film and/or sound to create mixed media installations.
I work to amuse myself, vent my frustrations at the world and see where the journey takes me.
